The Batura Glacier Trek is one of the most scenic treks in the Karakoram Range, leading through lush alpine meadows, high-altitude glaciers, and breathtaking views of some of the world’s tallest peaks. The trek follows the lateral moraine of Batura Glacier, the fifth-longest glacier in the world (57 km), offering views of Passu Cones, Shispare (7,611m), and Ultar Sar (7,388m).Duration: 12–16 Days, Location: Karakoram Range, Pakistan, Best Season: June–September, Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous, Highest Altitude: ~4,100m (Kukhil)

Itinerary

Day 1. Islamabad

Arrival in Islamabad and transfer to the hotel

Day 2. Islamabad - Passu/Shishkat

Drive to Chilas on Kararkoram Highway (KKH), If Naran/Babusar road open then we should drive on Naran/Babusar.

Optional: Flight to Gilgit (1 hour) – A scenic flight over the Karakoram mountains

Things to see/do:

  • Karakoram Highway (KKH) or Babusar/Naran
  • Phattan
  • Dasu
  • Besham
  • Chila

Day 3. Passu/Shishkat - Yunzben

Drive to Passu (2,500m) & Trek to Yunzben (2,750m)

Things to see/do:

  • Start the trek from Passu village, following the lateral moraine of Batura Glacier.
  • Cross small streams and walk past shepherd huts.
  • Reach Yunzben (~4-5 hours trek).
  • Camp overnight in Yunzben.

Day 4. Yunzben - Yashpirt

Things to see/do:

  • Trek through meadows with panoramic views of Passu Cones, Batura I (7,785m), and Shispare (7,611m).
  • Spot yaks, ibex, and local shepherds tending livestock.
  • Reach Yashpirt, a beautiful summer settlement (~5-6 hours trek).
  • Overnight camp at Yashpirt.

Day 5. Exploration at Yashpirt

Acclimatization & Exploration at Yashpirt

 Things to see/do:

  • Rest day for acclimatization.
  • Optional short hikes to higher ridges for better views of the Batura Glacier.
  • Enjoy interaction with local Wakhi shepherds.
  • Overnight stay in Yashpirt.

Day 6. Yashpirt - Gutshism

Things to see/do:

  • Trek further along the glacier, crossing rocky moraines and lush green meadows.
  • Magnificent views of the Batura Glacier icefall.
  • Camp at Gutshism (~5-6 hours trek).

Day 7. Gutshism - Kukhil - Explore Batura Glacier

Trek to Kukhil (4,100m) & Explore Batura Glacier

Things to see/do:

  • Trek to Kukhil, the highest point of the trek, offering breathtaking views of the glacier and surrounding peaks.
  • Spend time exploring the ice formations of Batura Glacier.
  • Overnight camping at Kukhil (~4-5 hours trek).

Day 8. Batura - Return to Yashpirt

Things to see/do:

  • Retrace the trail back to Yashpirt (~5-6 hours trek).
  • Enjoy the serene landscape and rest.

Day 9. Yashpirt - Yunzben

Things to see/do:

  • Gradual descent back towards Yunzben (~5 hours trek).
  • Rest and enjoy the last night in the wilderness.
  • Overnight in Yunzben.

Day 10. Yunzben - Passu/Shishkat

Explore the twin city, later drive to the airport and fly to destination.

Things to see/do:

  • Short trek (~2 hours) to Passu village.
  • over night stay in Passu/Shishkat.

Day 11. Passu/Shishkat - Gilgit - Flight Islamabad

Explore the twin city, later drive to the airport and fly to destination.

Things to see/do:

  • Option 1: Flight to Islamabad (subject to weather conditions).
  • Option 2: Drive to Gilgit and continue to Islamabad/Besha via Karakoram Highway (~16 hours).
  • Overnight stay in Islamabad.

Day 12. Sightseeing & Departure

Explore the twin city, later drive to the airport and fly to destination.

Things to see/do:

  • Visit Faisal Mosque, Lok Virsa Museum, and Saidpur Village.
  • Farewell dinner in Islamabad.
  • Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
